CATEGORY OF WRITERS

Though we come across many people who pose as writers, but their writings tell a different story. I would like to put writers into three categories:

Natural Writer

Persons with a voracious reading habit gather a lot of wisdom and a wide range of vocabulary over a period of time. They become writers by accident. They start writing when they suddenly discover that they can write at length. They've a natural flair for writing, however, they have to gather the skills as they gallop along. They try their hands at many kinds of writing, such as poetry, articles, features and even attempt to write short stories and essays. Most of the time, we see that the writing they produce is interesting, but may no carry the art of writing with depth and intellectual bent of mind. However, they become more skilled as they gain experience and learn the intricacies of writing by associating with experts.

We can often find people writing books on engineering, technology, software and hardware, machinery and tools etc. These people are Natural writers who have a sizeable expertise on the subject of learning and know how to put them into writing drawing on new concepts. They become Academic writers, but they're not creative. They're bound to their subject knowledge and write comfortably on the basis of that. They borrow ideas for writing and use their limited skills to write.

Creative Writer

Creative writers are also voracious readers and they're good players of words. They've a natural approach to writing and intelligently use their skills as a writer and they've great control over vocabulary and are versatile. They've a wide range in terms of writing and can write comfortably and artfully. They're capable in turning anything into writing - any word or any fact, incident or idea would get a distinct twist, nicely fabricated into a story. They've a psychological advantage to study different characters and things and conjure up a story. They're shrewd and great at analysis. There is a strange precision in their writing that draw the readers. They often look upon at their own life experiences to narrate a story. They're more appropriate when it comes to usage of words and they've a good control over their vocabulary. Creative workers have an unusual depth in their writing, which is very captivating. They can stun the readers with their writing, which may have a very simple origin and style. Creative writers have a wide imagination to create twists and bends at will. They use language powerfully, purposefully and meaningfully. These kind of writers mostly do not depend on anything for inspiration, but turn to themselves for finding a cause for their writing.

Creative writers are good at drafting letters, advertisement copies, newspaper reports and articles, essays, plays, lyrics, poetry, short stories, academic books etc. Their writings have a magnetic attraction and readers will be drawn to it automatically.

Trained Writer

Writers in this category are trained to specialize in a specified area and mostly work as journalists and content developers and they follow the craft to a certain angle and don't stretch themselves beyond that. Journalist can't become a good writer, but a writer can become a good journalist. Some train themselves to be feature writers, copywriters and stick to it with their limitations. They're not too creative and often need peer support when they try to move out of their cocoon. They acquire a particular skill at writing and remain loyal to it - they often find it difficult to write a lengthy piece. They're more comfortable with reference material to lead them on.

Let us see, which category you belong as a writer.
